All eyes on Milan

Having seemed close to the sack during AC Milan’s woes earlier this season, Gennaro Gattuso will sympathise with the situation Inter counterpart Luciano Spalletti finds himself in going into Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina.

But he will almost certainly park any sentiment for the duration of the match and tell his in-form Rossoneri stars to go out and smash their city rivals in the way that Eintracht Frankfurt almost did in midweek.

Woeful Inter must be opposed

Inter were woeful as they crashed out of the Europa League at home to the Bundesliga outfit.

It may have only finished 1-0 but the Germans hit the woodwork and were denied further goals by two superb Samir Handanovic saves – so any repeat of that performance will see them soundly beaten again.

Some might baulk at taking the (-1) handicap at 4.75 because it is a derby and the outright price of 2.45 on AC Milan is still good, but this could get really ugly for Inter – whose lack of preparation time in comparison to the hosts could bite them hard.

Gattuso’s side will be fully rested and revved up for this clash and carry much more confidence into the match from a run of 10 matches without defeat in Serie A.

Piatek can be Icardi’s heir as derby icon

They will also be happy to see no Mauro Icardi in the Nerazzurri line-up. The Argentine, who was stripped of the captaincy and dropped last month, scored the injury-time winner when these two sides met in October, a result that left AC Milan in 12th.

Icardi has scored five of Inter’s last six derby goals and his absence could mean a new goalscoring hero is crowned in this match – AC Milan’s Krzysztof Piatek.

The Pole’s arrival from Genoa in January has sparked AC Milan’s turnaround under Gattuso and with six goals in his last six Serie A appearances, he looks the obvious play for an anytime goalscorer bet at 2.10.
