The final two Champions League last-16 second legs take place on Wednesday night, with the two matches taking place in Munich and Barcelona.

Both games are level after goalless first legs, so who will make it through to the quarter-finals of Europe’s top club competition?

Bayern hit form at the right time

At the turn of the year, there were strong claims that Niko Kovac’s job was under threat with Bayern off the pace in the Bundesliga title race.

But the Bavarian giants have turned things around and go into their home clash with Liverpool (Match Odds – Bayern 2.15, Draw 3.55, Liverpool 3.40) on a seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

Not only has their form returned, but they also look a far more solid unit at the back. The German champions have conceded just one goal in their last four matches and have scored 12 goals during that run.

The Allianz Arena is also back to being a fortress, with eight wins and two draws in their last 10 home games – including a 5-1 win over Benfica in their last European home tie.

Meanwhile, in contrast, Liverpool have failed to score in three of their last five fixtures and have not scored more than one on the road since December.

It’s likely that the Reds will look to keep it tight and frustrate the hosts, hoping to use the pace of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to get in behind the Bayern backline.

Salah has not scored in hia last five matches and will be desperate to end that run. The Egyptian is 2.15 in the ‘Total Shots – Over 3.5’ market and can be backed at 2.40 to score at anytime.

Robert Lewandowski has scored four goals in his last two matches and he is available at 3.50 to score first on Wednesday night.

Barca class to shine through

We’ve seen some of the big names already crash out of the competition in the last 16, but Barcelona are unlikely to join the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain on that list (Match Odds – Barcelona 1.23, Draw 6.75, Lyon 11.50).

The Catalan giants were frustrated in the first leg in Lyon, when their opponents stood firm despite plenty of Barca pressure.

But at the Nou Camp, where Ernesto Valverde’s men have not lost a European tie since 2013, it will be a different prospect. In the last year, Barca have played 10 Champions League games and have conceded just six goals and, at 4.75, look to have a great chance of lifting the trophy for a sixth time.

Lyon are not without their threats, though, with the Ligue 1 side having already won at Manchester City this term and they are unbeaten in this season’s competition – with six of those seven games ending in draws.

The first leg draw with Barca is the first time the French outfit (4.20 Double Chance) failed to score in this season’s Champions League and have bagged six goals in their three away games.

The stats suggest there will be goals and an attractive looking bet is Barcelona to win and both to score, available at 2.45.
