Sevilla v Real Madrid Preview

Real Madrid travel to Andalusia on Wednesday for what is expected to be a thriller in Sevilla.

Both sides have shown encouraging signs in the opening period of the season and have a habit of turning out entertaining affairs.

After a tough summer, which saw both Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo depart, Los Blancos have hit their stride under Julen Lopetegui, dropping just a point in La Liga and kicking off their Champions League defence with a 3-0 demolition of Roma.

However, they have a poor record at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and Los Rojiblancos will be looking to kick on from some encouraging recent results.

Sevilla looking to make it three in a row

After an impressive four-year spell revolutionising Girona, Pablo Machin took charge at the Pizjuan this summer and has already brought his penchant for goals to this side.

Incredibly there have been 13 in their last two outings, with a 5-1 Europa League victory over Standard Liege followed by Sunday’s 6-2 triumph at Levante.

Sevilla have won the last three league meetings between the sides in Andalusia, with both to score and another home victory is a handy 4.40, while that outcome and both to score is 5.25.

Unbeaten Real put record to the test

Seville is a notoriously tough place to go and a look at their fixture list suggests this is Real’s tough test yet.

An away victory is just 1.74, with the draw 4.40 and Lopetegui will perhaps see this as his first real test since succeeding Zidane.

Despite being a former player for the club and going unbeaten as Spain boss, the Basque was still somewhat of a surprise choice by the Bernabeu hierarchy. However, he has settled in well and despite only beating Espanyol 1-0 over the weekend, the squad seem to be embracing his more direct approach.

Back Bale to make a difference

Gareth Bale, in particular, seems to be relishing the change of regime and with five goals to his name for club and country this season, is 4.50 to open the scoring.

However, Wissam Ben Yedder could be equally dangerous, having netted a hat-trick in the victory at Levante. The Frenchman would love to do the same again at 32.75 to score three or more and considering he scored against Real last season, 2.50 for him to net at anytime is certainly appealing.

Go for goals in this one

This has traditionally been one of the go-to matches for those seeking entertainment in La Liga, with over 2.5 goals in the last 11 meetings between the teams.

Sevilla have scored at least twice in their last six home games against Wednesday’s opponents, although there have been under 2.5 goals in their last three at home in La Liga.

For their part, Real have scored at least twice in 11 of their last 12 against the Andalusians. Over 2.5 goals is perhaps unsurprisingly just 1.39, with over 3.5 2.00.

It could be another classic in the deep south of Spain and Sevilla could well have enough to give an expectant crowd exactly what they want.
