Transfer Round-Up – July 4

Transfer Round-Up

Premier League teams continue to look for summer signings ahead of the new campaign, with a World Cup star being tipped to make a move to London.

Chelsea in talks for Russian ace

Chelsea are understood to be in negotiations with CSKA Moscow in an attempt to complete a move for Russia international Aleksandr Golovin.

The 22-year-old has been impressive for his country at the World Cup, after an eye-catching season with CSKA and Chelsea (12.00 to win the Premier League) are keen to add him to their midfield ranks.

Golovin, who has also attracted interest from Juventus, is expected to cost in the region of £25million and his mother has admitted that he could be heading to the Premier League.

When asked about Chelsea’s interest, Svetlana Golovina said: “Yes, now there are talks between the clubs, but we still do not know the details.”

City close in on double signing

Manchester City are hoping to have completed the signings of Jorginho and Riyad Mahrez by the time pre-season training begins on Monday.

City (6.00 to win this season’s Champions League) have agreed a fee in the region of £43million with Napoli for midfielder Jorginho, who has agreed a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium and now needs to undergo a medical.

Meanwhile, the deal to sign Leicester star Mahrez is making good progress, with City also hopeful of having him on board sooner rather than later.

The Algerian is also due to undergo a medical after City agreed an initial fee of £60million that is expected to rise to £75million.

Arsenal leading Gomes race

Arsenal – 3.25 to finish in the Top Four this season – are thought to be leading the race to sign Andre Gomes from Barcelona.

The Portuguese midfielder is expected to leave the Nou Camp after a frustrating time under Ernesto Valverde, with Arsenal, Tottenham and Valencia all chasing his services.

But it is understood that the Gunners are now in pole position to sign the 24-year-old, with reports in Spain suggesting a £20million deal is in the offing.

Sporting star is a Saints target

Joao Mario is another Portuguese player who could be on the move, with Southampton being tipped to sign the midfielder.

The 25-year-old scored two goals in 14 appearances during a loan spell with West Ham in the second half of last season, with the Hammers one of several Premier League clubs keen to secure his services.

But having lost Dusan Tadic to Ajax, Mark Hughes is desperate to bring in new faces and talks could now begin following Portugal’s World Cup exit.

Inter Milan are believed to be happy to offload Mario for around 30 million euros, despite paying £38m to sign him from Sporting in 2016.

Cabaye leaves Palace

Yohan Cabaye has thanked the Crystal Palace fans for their support after completing a moving to the UAE, to join Al Nasr.

The Frenchman’s contract at Selhurst Park expired over the weekend and the former Newcastle man has decided to head to the Middle East, bringing an end to his three-year spell with the Eagles.
