NBA Preview 20-21/10

Boston Celtics have already downed one of their main Eastern Conference rivals in Philadelphia 76ers and now come up against another threat in Toronto Raptors.

Celtics can triumph in Toronto

The Celtics’ biggest competition for Eastern Conference glory is likely to come from the Sixers and the Raptors, and they can make an early-season statement by claiming a win in Canada.

Boston were far too strong for Philly as they claimed a 105-87 win. The Celtics may be in for a sterner test at the Scotiabank Arena and are 1.90 to win with a +3 handicap in the point spread, but they should be able to get the job done and are a tempting 2.30 in the moneyline on Saturday (game starts 1am BST).

Back to back wins for GSW

Golden State may take a while to truly hit top form but they did manage to open their account with a win over Oklahoma City Thunder, despite looking a little below-par.

The champions come up against a solid Utah Jazz outfit on Saturday (starts 2.35am BST) and should have enough quality to come through, with the Warriors 1.89 with a -2.5 handicap in the point spread.

Two defeats in a row for LeBron’s Lakers

The LA Lakers were beaten in Portland in their season opener as the Trail Blazers ruined LeBron James’ debut.

The Lakers do have home court advantage on Sunday (game starts 3am BST) but face a genuine championship contender in Houston Rockets, who are 8.00 to win the NBA Championship.

As the season progresses LA may be able to compete with the very top sides but right now they’re still gelling as a unit and the Rockets can leave the Staples Center with a win, despite losing their own curtain raiser to New Orleans Pelicans.
